Maybe others will add their 2¢ with various APC models & tell me if they too cannot see time remaining. If I happen to be sitting at the computer when the power goes out, I can check the time & note the % battery life & calculate that way. I have iMac, router, modem & external HD on Battery & other stuff, speakers & printer in the surge only outlets so as to not waste the battery in a outage. I had looked up different APC models & tried to figure time with my system & it was a guess. (He had a different problem & included a screen shot which had the time remaining info)
I was wondering if others found a way to do this as did that other poster I mentioned. While it is not critical that I know the time remaining, It would be nice if I have that capability with the Mac default USB UPS support. I appreciate the reply Sonicray but, I know (just double checked with APC tech support) that Powerchute Personal Edition (PCPE) does NOT work & should not be installed if you have OS X 10.5.x It works in older OS X 10.4. How can I see estimated time remaining? I really hate to “pull the plug” on the UPS & Then time it manually. Time remaining is grayed out on that menu bar sub menu. I am able to see the current battery charge via the Menu Bar but, Below the “Optimization” field was text with both current battery charge and estimated time remaining. I saw a screen shot on this forum that showed an additional drop down field “Optimization” just below the “Settings For” field. My question is that I am unable to view the “Estimated Time Remaining.”
I even checked show UPS status in menu bar & it appeared. I selected UPS both from the “Settings For” Drop down list as well as the sub menu button. I was able to see the status & adjust settings for the UPS in Energy Saver in Mac System Preferences. Using a hub with UPS supposedly causes problems. I made sure I plugged the USB into a rear port & did not use a hub. The APC web site had Mac software only for older Mac OS 10.4. I just bought /set up an APC BX 900R (same as XS 900).
